Development bank grants R$150m loan to Cerradinho Group

Development bank grants R$150m loan to Cerradinho Group

Aloizio Mercadante Gabriel de Paiva/Agência O Globo Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has approved two credit operations totaling R$150 million for the Cerradinho Group. The company will use the funds to modernize and expand biofuel production at its plants in Chapadão do Céu, in the state of Goiás, and Maracaju, in Mato Grosso do Sul. Development Bank approves R$500m loan for FS corn ethanol plant Brazil raises mandatory ethanol blend to E32 The first operation, a R$50 million loan under the BNDES Mais Inovação [More Innovation] program, will be directed to Neomille, the group’s corn ethanol and co-products subsidiary. The funds will be used to purchase machinery, equipment and technological services. The second operation, worth R$100 million, is intended for the acquisition of capital goods, including industrial and agricultural equipment. Neomille and CerradinhoBio will use the resources under the same innovation program. “These are investments in Brazilian technology aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions,” BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante said in a statement. In October 2025, the bank had already approved a R$300 million financing package for the company to increase the plant’s capacity by 30%, reaching 1.2 million tonnes of corn processed per year. Once completed, annual production capacity per harvest will rise to as much as 527 million liters of ethanol, 265,000 tonnes of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), and up to 21,000 tonnes of corn oil. That financing included R$240 million from Brazil’s Climate Fund and R$60 million from the BNDES Finem Incentivada credit line. During the same period, the company completed a R$500 million fundraising through the issuance of agribusiness receivables certificates (CRAs) to finance raw-material purchases. According to Cerradinho Bio’s CEO Renato Pretti, BNDES has played a significant role in the company’s growth cycles. “Our expansion project achieved an important milestone in early July, raising the plant’s processing capacity to 1.2 million tonnes per year. BNDES will now be a partner in financing innovative equipment that will be acquired for the company’s three operating units,” Pretti said. CerradinhoBio is Brazil’s third-largest producer of corn ethanol, behind only Inpasa and FS. In the 2025/26 harvest, the company’s net profit rose 90% to R$372.7 million, with its corn business accounting for 70% of earnings during the period. Net revenue increased 16% to R$4.3 billion.
